HYPEROPIA IN BRANCH RETINAL VEIN OCCLUSION

A tertiary care center based case-control study of 46 patients with Br anch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and 46 controls, presenting with re tinal diseases other than BRVO, was undertaken to assess the associati on of BRVO with hyperopia. Mean (+/- S.D.) spherical equivalent of the refractive error in patients with BRVO and the controls were 0.44 (+/ -1.07) diopters and -0.29 (+/- 1.05) diopters, respectively. Differenc e in mean spherical equivalent of the refractive error between patient s with BRVO and controls was 0.73 diopters (P<0.01). The possible mech anisms by which hyperopia may be related to BRVO are yet to be ascerta ined.
