A 55-year-old physician developed a small chalazion that was associate
d with a two diopter increase in hyperopia. There was no increase In a
stigmatism. The spherical refractive change cleared after removal of t
he chalazion and was associated with a three-fourths diopter steepenin
g of the cornea. It is very unusual for lid lesions to induce purely s
pherical changes in refraction.
