Abstract
We investigated the possibility of propagation under the influence of the Raman effect of certain subpicosecond soliton-like pulses which ar e solutions of a perturbed nonlinear Schrodinger equation describing t he propagation of light waves in monomode optical fibres. We calculate d the propagation distance limits of long-haul transmission systems ca used by the intrapulse Raman scattering soliton timing jitter and the amplified spontaneous emission noise induced timing jitter.
