Mws. Kon et al., ANOMALOUS PAPILLARY-MUSCLE AS A CAUSE OF LEFT-VENTRICULAR OUTFLOW TRACT OBSTRUCTION IN AN ADULT, The Annals of thoracic surgery, 63(1), 1997, pp. 232-234
Left ventricular outflow tract obstruction may be caused by abnormalit
ies of the various structures comprised by the outflow tract. Hypertro
phic cardiomyopathy is one of the more common causes, but many are rar
e anomalies, a collection of which we have compiled. We present a case
of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction mimicking aortic stenos
is in an adult. This was found to be due to abnormal insertion of a hy
pertrophied papillary muscle, successfully corrected by mitral valve r
eplacement. (C) 1997 by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons
