To carry out rapid and reliable species identification of Globodera an
d Meloidogyne specimens, two electrophoretic methods were modified and
adapted for an automated electrophoresis system (PhastSystem, Pharmac
ia). Proteins of individual Globadera cysts were identified using isoe
lectric focusing and a sensitive silver stain. Proteins of young singl
e Meloidogyne females were separated using polyacrylamide gradient gel
s and stained for the isozymes esterase and malate dehydrogenase.
