We calculate p-polarized light induced electric field inside a metalli
c him on top of a dielectric substrate. A modified hydrodynamic model
incorporating the bound electron contribution extracted from experimen
tal data is used. The electric field inside an aluminum and a silver s
lab is analysed especially with respect to the effect due to the prese
nce of longitudinal waves. These results are applicable for calculatio
ns of optical second-harmonic generation and photon-drag effect in thi
n metallic layers.
