E. Gaizauskas et K. Staliunas, ON THE OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR THE SELF-ORGANIZATION IN 3-WAVE NONLINEAR COUPLING, Optics communications, 114(5-6), 1995, pp. 463-469
Optimum conditions for the temporal compression of light pulses in thr
ee-wave nonlinear optical processes (optical parametric interaction, s
timulated Brillouin scattering) are investigated. The energies of pump
pulses twice above the generation threshold are shown to be most favo
rable for maximum temporal compression. This result is interpreted fro
m a thermodynamical point of view: by considering the optical parametr
ic oscillator as a system far from thermodynamical equilibrium, and by
analyzing the efficiency of production of a qualitatively new and coh
erent output by it.
