The quality assurance measures demanded in paragraph 137 of the Social
Code require both content-oriented and formal adaptations in anaesthe
sia documentation. The necessary electronic availability of risk- and
quality-relevant data obtained from premedication and/or anaesthesia r
ecords can be implemented only with a certain technical and personnel
requirement. A solution that is presently undergoing propagation, is a
utomatically readable paper documentation. A poll conducted among anae
sthesiologists revealed that they have quite clear ideas about the for
m of an anaesthesia protocol. The personnel requirement was investigat
ed for two different procedural variants. It was found that the placin
g of data in an EDP system by experienced documentation staff required
about two minutes for each case of anaesthesia; a further four to fiv
e minutes of the physician's time must be expected. It is thus evident
that compliance with the legal requirements on quality assurance must
be taken into account when planning staffing needs.
