Abstract
All high school students, irrespective of their reading ability, shoul d have opportunities to read complex literature. Techniques for improv ing comprehension in a mixed-ability English classroom are explained, including text previews, Story Impressions, Pre-Reading Plan (PReP), t hinking aloud, self-questioning based on story grammar, and reciprocal teaching. Cooperative learning strategies, writing, and discussing ar e woven into the strategies.
