Abstract
The formation of volatile Fe(CO)5 carbonyl from CO and the steel walls of an in situ IR cell has been investigated as the cause of iron cont amination of the samples. Correlation with the use of oxidizing atmosp heres, leading to a thin film of iron oxides on the cell walls, is als o discussed.
