Abstract
Prerequisites and limitations in the application of the molecular appr oaches for marker-assisted selection in animal breeding - candidate ge ne and type II-marker approaches-are delineated. Actual possibilities for marker assisted selection are discussed mainly based on candidate gene variants regarding milk performances, meat production and meat qu ality, fertility and stress susceptibility.
