The fluorescence of N2(B3 PI(g)) and N2(C3 PI(u)) states is observed i
n a time afterglow. This fluorescence is due to repopulation via pooli
ng reaction of N2(A3 SIGMA(u)+) state. From a kinetic model, it is sho
wn that the N2(C3 PI(u)) characteristic decay time depends on the atom
ic nitrogen density. Atomic density is deduced from the observed fluor
escence of N2(C3 PI(u)) for density higher than 5 x 10(13) cm-3. This
density increases with pulse duration and current intensity.
