Abstract
A novel, 27-membered macrolide, meridamycin, was isolated from a strai n of Streptomyces hygroscopicus and found to inhibit the binding of FK -506 to FKBP12 and to antagonize the immunosuppressive activity of bot h FK-506 and rapamycin. The isolation, structure elucidation, and biol ogical activity of this compound are described in this paper.
