A convenient, economical one-step synthetic procedure for the laborato
ry production of multigram quantities of borazine, B3N3H6. in 55 -65%
yields has been developed based on the reaction of NaBH4 and (NH4)(2)S
O4 in tetraglyme solution at 120-140 degrees C with continuous removal
of the product in vacuo. be produced in comparable yields by the ther
mal decomposition of H3B.NH3 under similar conditions. In both cases,
borazine is the only volatile product and is obtained in excellent pur
ity by a single vacuum fractionation. [GRAPHICS]
