C. Simmons et al., CIRCUMNUTATION AND GRAVITROPISM CAUSE ROOT WAVING IN ARABIDOPSIS-THALIANA, Journal of Experimental Botany, 46(282), 1995, pp. 143-150
Arabidopsis thaliana roots grow in a wavy pattern on inclined agar pla
tes. This waving behaviour has been interpreted as representing a grav
itropism-dependent thigmotropic response. We argue instead that this r
oot waving represents primarily a flattened spiral growth pattern resu
lting from circumnutation and gravitropism.
