Background. Information on the efficacy of breast stimulation for indu
cing labor in grand-multiparas and in women with a previous cesarean s
ection with or without premature rupture of membranes is limited. Meth
ods. Retrospective study of labor data from 135 women of grand multipa
rity or those with a previous section with or without premature ruptur
e of the membranes in whom labor was induced by breast stimulation. Re
sults. The success rate in achieving vaginal delivery was 84%. The dur
ation of breast stimulation, length of labor, vaginal delivery rate, a
nd Apgar score did not differ significantly among the four groups stud
ied. Conclusion. Breast stimulation in grandmultiparas and in women wi
th a previous cesarean section is efficacious and safe.
