Ferroelectric liquid crystals are of interest for applications in seco
nd order nonlinear optical experiments as they combine a thermodynamic
ally stable polar structure with mobility. Low-molecular weight- (see
Figure) and siloxane-fixed FLCs are reported which contain a donor-acc
eptor pi system in a heterocylic ring which does not disturb the desir
ed rod-like shape of the molecules.
