Bilateral synchronous testicular cancer is a rare occurrence usually a
ssociated with similar histologic findings in each testicle. We descri
be eight patients with bilateral synchronous testicular germ cell canc
er, of whom four had dissimilar histologic findings. Contralateral dis
ease in three patients was identified only by testicular ultrasonograp
hy or intraoperative exploration of the contralateral testicle, and in
two cases by palpation 6 months after identification of the primary c
ancer. Treatment was determined by conventional staging and five of ei
ght patients have remained free of recurrent disease.
