The dynamics of an asymmetric rotor coupled with a simple harmonic osc
illator is studied in terms of the SU(2)/U(1) x H-4/U(1) x U(1) coset
space representation. The expressions related to the anharmonic effect
of an asymmetric rotor are elucidated and their impact on the dynamic
s analyzed. The semiclassical regular and irregular (chaotic) trajecto
ries of the coupled system are demonstrated with their relationship wi
th the total rotational quantum number J and the asymmetry of the roto
r stressed. It is concluded that not only J but also the degree of asy
mmetry affect the accuracy of the harmonic treatment.
