Abstract
According to recent theories, a system of electrons under a strong ext ernal magnetic field at filling factor v = 1/2 can be transformed to a n equivalent system of fermions interacting with a Chern-Simons gauge field, such that the average effective magnetic field, acting on these fermions is zero. I discuss the results of this approach for various physical properties and corresponding experimental data.
