Mpsr. Amoureus et al., THE ADDICTION SEVERITY INDEX IN PENITENTIARIES, International journal of offender therapy and comparative criminology, 38(4), 1994, pp. 309-318
The sharply increased number of drug-abusing detainees in Dutch penite
ntiaries has led to a multiformity in treatment. No uniform assessment
instruments have been developed. In this study the Addiction Severity
Index for penitentiaries was researched. The instrument offers a wide
range of applications including treatment planning, referral decision
s and policy-making. The reliability and validity of the ASI was teste
d with 128 inmates; the internal consistency is good. The ASI problem
areas are independent from each other. The ASI produces valid severity
ratings and has a psychiatric subscale and its validity is moderately
good.
