M. Ganter et al., RESULTS OF TREATMENT WITH CHLORTETRACYCLI N MEDICATED FEED IN CHRONICAL PNEUMONIC PIGS, DTW. Deutsche tierarztliche Wochenschrift, 102(1), 1995, pp. 44-49
26 fattening pigs with spontaneous severe chronic bronchopneumonitis w
ere orally treated with fead containing 800 ppm chlortetracycline (CTC
) over 3 weeks. With the help of clinical investigation, transcutaneou
s measurement of the oxygen-saturation of the blood, X-ray of the thor
ax and bronchoalveolar lavage significant effects could be measured du
ring and after finishing the treatment. In 19 spontaneous fallen ill u
ntreated control animals recovery could not be detected by the used me
thods. After the end of the 3 weeks interval there were significant di
fferences between treated and untreated animals detectable. By this in
vestigations practical observations that oral treatment with 800 ppm i
n fattening pigs is effective was verified. But because of pharmacocin
etic data higher concentrations would be recommendable. In the treated
pigs a significant increase of the oxygen saturation of the blood occ
urred not before the 8th day of treatment. This underlines the importa
nce of sufficient length of the treatment interval.
