Abstract
This review summarizes work on the existence of and explanations for t he relationship between socioeconomic status and psychiatric disorders . Although progress has been made, continued efforts are needed to und erstand and specify the causal processes involved. Findings about the relationship between socioeconomic status, psychiatric, and physical d isorders suggest new areas for investigation.
