Abstract
The results of radar examination of freshwater ice cover in the centim etre band are presented. It is established that when mechanical stress es develop in the ice, a change in the value of the electromagnetic lo sses is observed. This phenomenon may be used as a remote indicator of regions of freshwater ice cover subject to thermal, seismic, tidal an d other effects from the environment.
