Sulfonated poly(2,6-dimethyl phenylene oxide) (SPPO) has been prepared
through the reaction of PPO and fuming sulfuric acid in the media of
chloroform. The effect of the amount of sulfuric acid on sulfonation c
ontents has also been discussed. The structure of SPPO was characteriz
ed by using FT-IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and other analysis methods. Condu
ctimetric titration, elemental analysis and H-1 NMR were used to deter
mine the sulfonation contents of SPPO, i.e., the percentage of sulfona
ted units.
