Abstract
Gain-switched operation of an optically pumped vertical-cavity surface -emitting laser with high-contrast AlxOy/GaAs distributed Bragg reflec tors is characterised. A pulse width of less than 8 ps is obtained. Th e far-field radiation patterns at different pump levels are found to d epend on the temporal response.
