Abstract
A new family of orthogonal transform called dyadic transform (DT) is p roposed for image compression by using the principle of dyadic symmetr y. Two order-8 DTs are generated and their implementation is very simp le in that it only requires operations of addition and binary shift. P erformance evaluations using statistical model and real images show th at the performance of the proposed transforms is very close to that of DCT.
