An original TV system was employed to evaluate ciliary function of til
e respiratory epithelium in patients with acute pneumonia, acute bronc
hitis, prebronchitis, chronic bronchitis. Criteria for identification
of early ciliary dysfunction have been developed. The effects on cilia
ry movements of eicosanoids, platelet-activating factor, protease, bio
genic amines and mechanisms underlying ciliary dysfunction in nonspeci
fic pulmomary diseases are considered.
