Abstract
The past year has yielded important results in the study of protein-fo lding intermediates. It has been shown that the equilibrium molten glo bule has a native-like tertiary fold and is separated from the unfolde d state by a first-order phase transition. New equilibrium intermediat es have been revealed and substantial progress has been made in the un derstanding of two main barriers in protein folding.
