K. Akagi et al., POLYACETYLENE FILMS PREPARED BY INTRINSIC NONSOLVENT POLYMERIZATION METHOD - MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES AND ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITIES, Synthetic metals, 69(1-3), 1995, pp. 29-30
We have synthesized highly stretchable and highly conducting polyacety
lene films by ''Intrinsic Non-Solvent (INS)'' polymerization method an
d investigated mechanical and electrical properties of the films, in o
rder to examine the feasibility of the INS method as an advanced solve
nt-free polymerization method. Mechanical strengths of the films are 4
0 GPa in Young's modulus and 2100 MPa in tensile strength. The result
implies that the present films are more easily elongated but less brea
kable than the films prepared by the solvent evacuation (SE) method, s
ince the latter films show 100 Cpa and 900 MPa in Young's modulus and
tensile strength, respectively. Electrical conductivities of iodine-do
ped stretched films by the INS method ate 2.2 similar to 4.3 x 10(4) S
/cm. As result, it can be remarked that the INS method produces high q
uality polyacetylene films whose mechanical and electrical properties
are comparable and/or superior to those by the SE method.
