Polyaniline was electropolymerized by cyclic voltammetry in the presen
ce of camphor sulfonic acid (CSA), and the resulting film was characte
rized by solubility tests, UV-Vis absorption, electron microscopy, X-r
ay diffraction and conductivity measurements. The use of the functiona
lized acid - CSA - made it possible to obtain the as-electropolymerize
d polymer (in the doped stare) soluble in organic solvents such as m-c
resol and chloroform. The UV-Vis spectra of PAni-CSA in m-cresol prese
nted a free-carrier tail commencing at 1000 nm which may be attributed
to secondary doping due to conformational changes of the polymer chai
ns. After treatment with m-cresol the film exhibited an increase of co
nductivity reaching ca. 100 S/cm.
