The electrical conductivity of stretched amorphous ES film was measure
d in the direction of parallel and perpendicular to the chain directio
n. The electrical conductivity of the unstretched film was 27 S cm(-1)
while the sigma(p)arallel to and sigma perpendicular to were 92 and 2
0 S cm(-1), respectively, for a specimen of elongation ratio 273 %. Th
e sigma(parallel to) and sigma(perpendicular to) values tend to approa
ch saturation values at higher eleongation ratio, the ultimate anisotr
opy being 4.6. The UV-visibie spectra of stretched ES film at various
polarization angles indicates that the amorphous ES film is metallic o
nly in the chain direction, i.e. the the individual chains of ES are o
ne-dimensional metal. This result is supportive of the single conducti
ng chain models of amorphous ES film.
