A young long-haired cat was initially presented for gagging and vomiti
ng. Later, the clinical picture changed to regurgitation immediately a
fter eating. Contrast radiography revealed a fusiform foreign body in
the cervical oesophagus, which proved to be cotton thread entrapped wi
thin a trichobezoar. This was removed orally by traction on the thread
and further cotton was passed in faeces three days later. This unusua
l foreign body is discussed in relation to existing information concer
ning linear foreign bodies and trichobezoars in cats.
