Abstract
Arthur Nowick's research on amorphous alloys, with S. R. Mader and oth ers al the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, during the period 196 3-1967, was important in motivating research in this field during the following three decades. This paper illustrates the development of ran dom packing models for binary amorphous alloys following the 1965 pape r by A. S. Nowick and S. R. Mader, ''A hard-sphere model to simulate a lloy thin films'' [IBM J. Res. Dev. 9, 358 (1965)].
