The reaction of IrH5(PPr3i)(2) and indene at 60 degrees C leads to the
formation of (eta(3)-C9H7)IrH2(PPr3i)(2) and (eta(5)-C9H7)IrH2(PPr3i)
. The molecular structures of these products have been determined by s
ingle crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The eta(3)-indenyl complex is
stable only in the solid state and converts to the eta(5)-indenyl com
plex product upon dissolution.
