Abstract
The preferred magnetic axis of ErFe4Al8 is the c-direction, contrary t o the a-direction found for DyFe4Al8 and HoFe4Al8. The iron sublattice orders antiferromagnetically at 150 K. Thermomagnetic effects were ob served below 30 K. A cusp in the ac susceptibility was found at 20 K. These effects are of the spin-glass-type and may be related to the ord ering of the erbium sublattice.
