Abstract
We present an extensive heat capacity investigation on the R(2)Fe(14)X (R = rare earth; X = B, C) series near the magnetic ordering transiti on. The experimental results for Y2Fe14B agree well with a simplified theory of spin fluctuations. In compounds with magnetic R the anomalou s entropy follows the trend of the de Gennes factor. An interpretation is given using a mean field model for the R-Fe exchange interaction.
