The paramagnetic de susceptibility was measured for CeAg1-xInx. Its te
mperature dependence changes at the crystallographic transition temper
ature. It was calculated on the basis of the crystalline electric fiel
d (CEF). Tetragonally deformed CEF on 4f electrons was found to be shi
elded by the split 5d conduction electrons. The susceptibility in the
tetragonal phase was well fitted by cubic CEF with conduction polariza
tion.
