Abstract
The magnetic phase diagram of erbium has been constructed from the obs erved anomalies in thermal expansion and longitudinal magnetostriction measurements. Using a capacitance dilatometer, single crystal measure ments were made parallel to the crystallographic c-axis in the tempera ture range 2-100 K and in fields up to 7 T. Features of the phase diag ram are compared with those of diagrams deduced from previous neutron scattering studies.
