Single crystals of the orthorhombic intermetallic NdCu2 have been used
to measure the thermal expansion and longitudinal magnetostriction. M
easurements were made parallel to the crystallographic b-direction in
the temperature range 1.5-30 K and in magnetic fields up to 7 T. A com
parison of the measurements with the results of a mean-field calculati
on indicate a negative magnetoelastic constant. A magnetic phase diagr
am of NdCu, has been deduced from the anomalies observed in the dilato
metric measurements.
