Both pressure and a substitution of Cu by Ga in YbCu5, which leaves th
e hexagonal CaCu5 crystal structure unchanged, causes the system to ad
opt an almost trivalent state. This crossover is obvious from suscepti
bility and from pressure dependent measurements of the electrical resi
stivity.
