A method of deconvolution analysis involving the use of the z-transfor
m has been developed. When compared to the matrix method, it is shown,
under certain circumstances, to be identical. In order to study the v
alidity of the method, simple mathematical models have been constructe
d. The curves obtained with the computed method closely fitted those o
btained by mathematical analysis. The z-transform algorithm was applie
d to clinical data in order to demonstrate its validity for the deconv
olution of renograms. The advantages of the method over the matrix met
hod are discussed.
