Quality Control (QC) has been carried out on twenty nine mammographic
units installed in public hospitals, all over Greece. The QC procedure
includes: registration of general information and technical descripti
on of the mammographic chain, QC checks concerning environmental condi
tions, radiation safety, beam characteristics, accessories and periphe
rals performance, as well as image quality and patient dose. The colle
cted data are characterised by great non-uniformity and in some cases
indicate a poor performance level. Analysis of the results helps to im
prove the existing situation with reference to patient dose and image
quality.
