This article reports the results of a random sample survey of administ
rators assessing their professional writing activities. The survey sol
icited information including: position, length of time in position, pr
esent salary, education, whether published or unpublished, reasons for
not publishing, whether publishing helps further career, and whether
publishing increases salary. The results have been calculated and are
shown on the tables included with this article. The results of this su
rvey indicate that professionals in the academic practice and research
management professions are not writing articles for publication due t
o a lack of time, encouragement, and knowledge. The continued growth a
nd recognition of this profession may very well be dependent upon our
success at increasing our profession's publication effort.
