Abstract
Upconversion lasing at 850 nm is studied in Er3+ doped Z.B.L.A. fibers . Modelling of excited state absorption and upconversion emission from basic principles allows determining the laser oscillation condition i n the fiber. Values of excited state absorption cross-sections are ded uced from laser oscillation and spontaneous emission data and discusse d.
