Abstract
The synthesis of four potential biomarkers, 13 alpha-, 13 beta-, 14 al pha- and 14 beta-ethyl-8 beta(H)-podocarpane is reported. GC-MS compar ison with an Australian oil C-19 tricyclane and the mass spectra of tw o Puget Sound C-19-terpanes evidenced non-identity of the synthetic co mpounds with the natural products; thus, proposed structures should be revised.
