3-(2-Bezothiazolyl)-7-octadecyloxy Coumarin (BOC) is an amphiphilic de
rivative of coumarin 6, a laser dye which forms excellent floating lay
ers at the air-water interface. Highly fluorescent Langmuir-Blodgett (
LB) films have been obtained on quartz substrates. A comparitive study
of the absorption, emission and excitation spectra of BOC in solution
and in LB films at room temperature and at 77K have been made. The ex
perimental results suggest that at room temperature the films are amor
phous but at low temperature the films are microcrystalline.
