Abstract
The influence of acetate groups in a macromolecule of polyvinyl alcoho l (OVA) on its adsorption properties and on the zeta potential of tita nia was studied. A significant effect of acetate groups on the magnitu de of PVA adsorption on TiO2 was found. Adsorption of PVA with acetate groups affects also the zeta potential and the position of isoelectri c point of TiO2. The change in the zeta potential is chiefly due to th e charge of adsorbing PVA molecules. Ultimately, PVA adsorption change s the structure of the electric double layer.
