The occurence of tonococlonic convulsions in a 4-year-old Rhodesian Ri
dgeback bitch after propofol anaesthesia is described. In a second cas
e propofol was used in a 3-year-old Bouvier des Flandres bitch to term
inate excitations after surgery. After the injection of propofol the e
xcitations turned into tonical convulsions. In human medicine some cas
es of convulsions associated with propofol anaesthesia have recently b
een reported. Interactions between propofol and other anaesthetics or
analgetics are presumed. The exact mechanisms are unknown.
