PITUITARY ADENYLATE-CYCLASE ACTIVATING POLYPEPTIDE (PACAP) STIMULATESLH-RELEASE BY A DIRECT ACTION IN THE PITUITARY WITHOUT AFFECTING HYPOTHALAMIC GNRH RELEASE
S. Leonhardt et al., PITUITARY ADENYLATE-CYCLASE ACTIVATING POLYPEPTIDE (PACAP) STIMULATESLH-RELEASE BY A DIRECT ACTION IN THE PITUITARY WITHOUT AFFECTING HYPOTHALAMIC GNRH RELEASE, Neuro endocrinology letters, 17(1), 1995, pp. 13-19
The effects of Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PAC
AP) on in vivo LH-and in vitro GnRH release were studied using hypotha
lamus-lesioned rats and hypothalamic fragments, respectively. Since Gn
RH secretion is not affected by PACAP but the peptide stimulates LH se
cretion in hypothalamus-lesioned rats, we suggest that the physiologic
al site of action of PACAP are the gonadotropes.
